چکیده

Two techniques supporting voxel-based image registration are described and their benefits evaluated. The first method explicitly computes the overlapping region of both images. For a set of test registrations, this was found to save 12.1% of total computation time (minimum 7.7% faster). Second, a novel thresholding scheme for increased robustness against image noise is presented. The proposed technique considers voxel pairs rather than model and reference voxel in separate. For PET to MRI registration, a reduction of maximum errors was found. No significant loss in accuracy and reliability was experienced for CT to MRI and MRI to MRI registration. The described thresholding method may therefore generally be applied to improve registration of noisy data without affecting the accuracy when only minor noise is present.

Surface-based versus volume-based fMRI group analysis: a case study

Being able to detect reliably functional activity in a population of subjects is crucial in human brain mapping, both for the understanding of cognitive functions in normal subjects and for the analysis of patient data. The usual approach proceeds by normalizing brain volumes to a common 3D template. However, a large part of the data acquired in fMRI aims at localizing cortical activity, and me...

Reliability of volumetric and surface-based normalisation and smoothing techniques for PET analysis of the cortex: A test-retest analysis using [11C]SCH-23390

Parametric voxelwise analysis is a commonly used tool in neuroimaging, as it allows for identification of regions of effects in the absence of a strong a-priori regional hypothesis by comparing each voxel of the brain independently. Due to the inherent imprecision of single voxel measurements, spatial smoothing is performed to increase the signal-to-noise ratio of single-voxel estimates. In add...

Development of Prototype Iranian male pelvic phantom for internal dosimetry

Introduction: Existing phantoms have been constructed based on Caucasian, non-Caucasian and race-specific datasets. According to previous studies made efforts to present Korean- specific phantoms and Chinese female phantom based on CVH dataset due to compare the resulting internal dosimetry with the Caucasian based data showed possible racial difference in human anatomy between ...

Interactive Clipping Techniques for Texture-Based Volume Visualization and Volume Shading

We propose clipping methods that are capable of using complex geometries for volume clipping. The clipping tests exploit per-fragment operations on the graphics hardware to achieve high frame rates. In combination with texture-based volume rendering, these techniques enable the user to interactively select and explore regions of the data set. We present depth-based clipping techniques that anal...

Phased array ultrasonic imaging using an improved beamforming based total focusing method for non destructive test

One of the novel ultrasonic phased array based scanning methods for ultrasonic imaging in non-destructive test is total focusing method (TFM). This method employs maximum available information of the phased array elements and leads to an improved defect detection accuracy compared to conventional scanning methods. Despite its high detection accuracy, TFM behaves weak in distinguishing the real ...
